  •  Principle of Radar Flow Measurement

The radar current meter uses the Doppler effect principle to measure the surface velocity of fluids. In the field of acoustics, when there is relative motion between the sound source and the receiver (i.e. the probe and reflector), the frequency of the echo will change, and this frequency change is called frequency shift, which is the Doppler effect. When the radar current meter and the water body move at a relative velocity V, the frequency of the electromagnetic wave received by the radar current meter is different from the frequency of the electromagnetic wave emitted by the radar itself, and this frequency difference is called Doppler frequency shift. By calculating the relationship between Doppler frequency shift and V, the surface velocity of the fluid is obtained.

 

  •  Flow calculation

The flow measurement vertical line shall be arranged in accordance with the requirements of GB 50179-2015 River Flow Measurement Specification. As shown in the figure, the red lines represent the vertical lines set for the flow measurement section, with a total of 10 vertical lines, dividing the section into 11 small sections. The average vertical flow velocity Vn on each vertical line is the product of the surface flow velocity Vn table measured by the radar flowmeter at the measuring point and the water surface velocity coefficient k, that is, Vn vertical=Vn table * k, where n represents the corresponding vertical line number. The flow rate of the small section can be calculated according to the formula.
